About Fr. McKenzie: Fr. Mark McKenzie, S.J. is the liaison between the Provincial of the U. S. Central and Southern Province of the Society of Jesus and the Bridges Foundation. His education includes a Bachelor’s in philosophy, Saint Louis University, 1962; Licentiate in philosophy, Saint Louis University, 1963; Master’s in mathematics, Saint Louis University, 1967; Master’s in religious education, Saint Louis University, 1970.
His previous ministries include 13 years as a high school mathematics teacher and 31 years as a pastor. One example of his pastoral work in 1970 involved developing the UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM at SLUH with Fr. Tom Valiquette, S.J. This program helped financially disadvantaged students—mostly students from the inner city—get ready for a Catholic, college preparatory education. The program consisted of a 6-week summer residential experience along with Saturday classes during their 8th grade school year to prepare for the Catholic high school experience.
Currently, after 5 years as Assistant for Pastoral and Retreat Ministries for the U. S. Central and Southern Province, Fr. Mark is serving in pastoral ministry with the Bridges Foundation of St. Louis, which brings Ignatian spirituality to the daily lives of people who live in the greater St. Louis area.
